Disable Data Transfer through USB Port

Dear Members,

It has been a problem for all of Network Administrators to disable USB Flash disk data transfer in Lab. If we disable USB port, we are unable to use USB Keyboard and Mouse. And if we allow USB Data transfer, there are chances of VIRUS penetration in the system or whole network

The first option to avoid Viruses from USB Data transfer, always use USB Disk Security. This registered software can be downloaded from here.

The second option is to block data transfer only through USB Ports. All data devices including flash disk, memory cards, external drives and data travelers will be unable to communicate with the system. Only those devices, in which data traveling is not done, will be remain useable in the system.

The following lines will show how to do this. Follow these steps to block data transfer in

1- Open Registry Editor (Type REGEDIT in command prompt. To open command prompt type cmd in RUN)

2- TO DISABLE USB DATA TRANSFER

Navigate to the following key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\USBSTOR

Here you will find the value of Start Dword as 3. Double Click on it and change it to 4.

USB Data transfer is disabled now.

3- TO ENABLE USB DATA TRANSFER

Navigate to the following key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\USBSTOR

Here you will find the value of Start Dword as 4. Double Click on it and change it to 3.

USB Data transfer is disabled now.
